Want to Swap your HDDVD Stuff for Blue Ray? Move to Switzerland…

If you were one of the suckers (myself included) that adopted HDDVD early on and got hosed, Sony may have a solution for you. In Switzerland, Sony has created somewhat of an “HDDVD Recycle” program. This program will allow people to trade in their HDDVD players and videos for credit towards Blue Ray gear.

There is however a catch to this program. It requires that you buy one of BDP-S500 or BDP-S300 Blu-ray players before the end of March. Doing so will allow you to send in your HDDVD player and get a discount of 200 Swiss Francs or about $190 American ( Thats more than I paid for my stupid HDDVD player!), plus both the Spider-Man trilogy and Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy on Blu-ray.

This isn’t great for everyone. Freaking Sony is not exchanging the Xbox 360 HDDVD Players. Figures… Well, hopefully this type of program moves to the states. Until then, I’m going to buy all of the cheap HDDVDs that I can.
